FREE Counseling Services from Independence Unlimited, Inc. May Be Able to Help!

Our in-house clinical mental health counselor uses a variety of strategies to help individuals develop coping strategies, heal trauma and, build self-confidence. If you are struggling with issues related to:

  • A Disability, Illness, or Medical Condition
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic Stress (PTSD)
  • Adjusting to a Major Life Change or Transition
  • LGBTQ Identity/Sexuality

You can work through your thoughts and feelings with the assistance of a trained professional, in a relaxed, safe and, confidential environment. This service is being offered free of charge; you do not need to pay-out of pocket, go through insurance, or have a referral to participate.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Do you sometimes feel as though you’re "falling through the cracks" of the system? Schedule an appointment with an agency counselor to assess mental health services specifically for the needs and concerns of the disability community. Services are geared toward people with both disabilities and mental health issues who don’t qualify for a waiver.

OPTIONS COUNSELING

Options counseling through Independence Unlimited provides individuals, family members and/or significant others with assessments, counseling, recommendations and support in their decisions to determine appropriate choices for remaining in the community and preventing pre-mature entry into an institution. During this process, a written plan for receiving community resources is developed by our compassionate staff, based on an individual’s needs, preferences, values, and circumstances.

Independence Unlimited (IU) is a non-residential, non-profit center for in dependent living that serves a diverse population in 38 cities and towns mainly in Hartford County. Established in 1982, IU is governed and managed primarily by people with disabilities.

Major funding for Independence Unlimited is provided by the US Dept. of Health and Human Services, Administration on Community Living, CT Department of Rehabilitation Services, private grants, fee for service and individual donations.
